Its flavour is very intensive with high content of sugar, calories, minerals especially Kali and essential vitamines. It is not only being tasted as a fresh fruit but also processed into different products such as canned pineapple, pineapple liquor, sweet preserved pineapple liquor, and sweet preserved pineapple. Pineapple plants are widely grown in the country. Total planting arear is approximately 40,000 hectares with output of around 500,000. The peak ripening time for this tropical fruit coincides with summer when the hours of sunshine are longer. People in southern Vietnam usually call this tropical fruit "trai thom" (fragrant fruit), which is literally a precise quote for the fruit since anyone who takes their first bite can surely notice the strong sweet smell. Since the smell of the pineapples lingers longer than that of some other fruits, connoisseurs find it difficult to forget.The harvest times are different from region to region. In the North there are two crops, one from June to July and the other from October to December. In the South, the harvest is all year around but the biggest yields concentrate in April to May and September to October. Queen and Cayenne Pineapples are in some prominently different features such as in color and flavour; Cayenne pineapple owns white color while Queen is in bright yellow one, favour as well as taste of Queen pineapple is much stronger and sweeter than that of Cayenne. The weight for a Queen pineapple is lighter whereas its nodes are deeper than that of Cayenne so its appearance is not as good- looking as products made of Cayenne. Most of markets are more interested in goods from Cayenne origin, Queen is produced mainly for Russian market.
